A lot of the entries have entries for folding up vs down. For example F4-1 vs F4-2 for bi-fold and and F6-1 vs F6-2 for Z-fold.

However, the c-fold entry (F6-4) is only specified folding up. Would it be possible to add a new entry for C-Fold using downward folds?

For our needs, we are looking to keep the XML as simple as possible. If we supported Bindery Signatures and Layout we could only support a very small fraction of the functionality – so little that the added complexity seems out of proportion to what we want to enable.

Is there really no way to request additional entries in the Fold Catalog? If not, does that mean that you are planning to deprecate it?

We can add Orientation to the Fold Catalog if that's the preferred mechanism.

The lack of consistency seems problematic to me.

Are you planning to deprecate entries which are duplicates of each other except for orientation (e.g. F4-2, F6-2, etc.)?

What's the rationale for using Orientation in some cases and using duplicate entries in other cases?

As Koen already noted, the Fold Catalog is based on the known folds of conventional folding equipment. The entire concept is a bit dated (number of pages after folding + index in catalog rather than an algorithmic description of each fold) BUT: it is in wide use and not fundamentally broken. Therefore a change is probably not a good idea.

The Resource/@Orientation already is defined, so:

      a.) You have a solution

      b.) We are backwards compatible.

The fact that F4-2 is actually a flipped F4-1 is puristically unclean, but not a fundamental problem.

The 2nd part of Koen's answer is the important one and also applies to XJDF.

Simply add the appropriate Orientation to FoldingParams and you have turned it upside down.

This avoids doubling or quadrupling (e.g. for Calendars) the number of FoldCatalog entries that are identical except for orientation.

The FoldCatalog list is quite old and based on a specific c;lass of folder devices.

You can create a custom FoldCatalog using SignatureCells (mainly used with Stripping) or define you own custom name.

When using Stripping you can also use e.g. Flip180 to convert a F4-1 to F4-2.
